Favourite New Youtuber Finds of 2016

Hey everyone!

Oh my goodness, I just got my Macbook back from repairs. It is working! Finally! And I bought a new keyboard protector, and it feels so amazing to type. And I thought it would be a waste not to just post more things on my blog after being so deprived from it.

I thought one good thing I could make a list of, a new one, is one of my favourite new youtubers. These youtubers are not meant to surpass the ones I’ve always been following, and because they are new to me, doesn’t mean they are new at all, but just to put the new ones I’m following this year, and have fallen in love with, into the spotlight. (Not that they need it.) Oh, and I also wonder if I did start following some this year – a year is both long and incredibly short – but they are definitely youtubers I fell more and more in love with.

I feel like for a lot of these youtubers I’ve jumped on the bandwagon so so late. But I’ve just absolutely fallen in love with them. So, in no particular order:

1. Dodie Clarke, i.e. doddleoddle

Dodie just might be my spirit animal. Her voice is sooo beautiful, and when she is off on her little chats, I feel like grabbing a warm tea and just cozying up on the couch. She is just so relatable as a person to me and I can only wish her so much success on her path to pursuit more music and more happiness.

2. Carrie Hope Fletcher, i.e. ItsWayPastMyBedTime

Okay, I feel so behind the bandwagon for this one. But Carrie is sooo amazing! She’s so articulate and insightful and at the same time so so talented and cheery. She’s another British youtuber who I just fell in love with this year.

3. Alex Rainbird Playlists

And this last one is less of “youtuber” and more of an entire music channel that I’ve just loved. I’ve been collecting songs to create a playlist for my wedding dinner, and a lot of my songs came from Alex Rainbird’s monthly indie playlists. I would just play them while I have a shower, and just note down whenever I fell in love with one – which was honestly extremely difficult because I would love an entire string of them and I’d be like “CRAP I NEED TO LIST THEM ALL DOWN!” But it’s a happy problem.

Anywho, those are the three channels! They also feel like ones that will be staples on my subscribe list. (I usually recycle some yearly so I don’t go overboard with Youtube videos – if you’ve read my blog you’ll know how much Youtube I watch … it’s a proper addiction.)

Well, till next time!

30DPC Day 9: What I do differently …

9. What’s something you know you do differently than most people?

Count me as a pessimist, but I don’t think that we’re entirely exclusive in a lot of things we do  – so this question was very difficult for me. I think the purpose of this question was for me to figure out what is unique about me – but again, it was difficult.

I personally don’t think that I make choices any more differently than anyone else. I’m fairly sure that there are only a set path of choices in a given situation and that, sure there would be unpopular choices, but these choices are not unique to myself.

Along a similar line of thought, I don’t think I have any set of skills that are exclusive to me, especially after I’ve spent so much time on Fictionpress and Deviantart. There are so many people in there as equally (and a who lot more that are even more) talented at writing and drawing. So I don’t think I necessarily do skills differently. Maybe I attempt to stand out by choosing different subject matters and techniques – but I don’t think I necessarily do them differently.

Hmm, maybe I have a problem with the word ‘do’ in this question. Because my assumption in this is that humans have a fixed set of ways they can do things and a fixed set of ways they can possibly figure out things so we would not necessarily do things differently. Maybe I’m taking this question too literally.

Well, I did this question differently then everyone else. That’s for certain.

Okay – but you want an actual answer. I guess if I were to say that I did anything else, I’m pretty sure that they way I make semantic connections is different than anyone else. And by this I meant that I associate things differently when you present a particular item to me. And I think this is true for everyone, because no one has experienced the exact same things as you have. So I suppose that if you present me a random object like an ‘apple’ I would most likely have different connections than others.

That’s the most I’ve got. It’s late.

So catch me tomorrow as I attempt to fail this challenge one question at a time by overanalysing it or putting it down – ’cause that seems to be the trend at the moment. Oh, and go check out Rhey of Sunshine as she makes a more straightforward attempt to answer these questions.

Till then,

30 Things Wrong with The Giver trailer

3 movies+tvshows - wednesday

After finishing off The Giver (the book) today I realised, with absolute indignation, how different the new Hollywood movie trailer is from it. And how I would so much more prefer if they stayed true to the book. ‘Cause the book has a lot of beauty in its simplicity. And no one needs another comparison to The Hunger Games. So I decided to list off all the things wrong with it:

  1. Jonas is supposed to be twelve. This is the most obvious thing about it. Can Hollywood not take a movie and put in pretty looking teenagers and call it a day?
  2. His eyes are supposed to be blue. If you’re going to get an actor that looks like he can barely act, at least make his eye colour right.
  3. The Giver’s eyes are supposed to be blue. Again, same thing.
  4. The houses, the bikes and the society as a whole aren’t meant to look modern.
  5. The film really shouldn’t have so much colour in it.
  6. There was never a “morning injection”.
  7. Jonas was never rebellious, even after getting all the memories.
  8. They always knew that their family unit consisted of “parents” who never gave birth to them, but they were always okay with this.
  9. Hence, Jonas and Asher has no reason to be stunned by this.
  10. Jonas never talks to Asher about rebelling against society.
  11. Jonas never asked to go fly a plane to the edge of the community.
  12. Jonas never spoke to Fiona about the morning injections (about skipping them), or anything against societal rules.
  13. He wasn’t even very close to Fiona.
  14. Therefore he definitely did not end up kissing her.
  15. Fiona is an important character – but nowhere near as important as the trailer suggests.
  16. Jonas never even had to subtly pretend that he did not take injections – his rules gave him the ability to.
  17. Asher does not end up a pilot.
  18. He definitely does not get asked by the Chief Elder to hunt down Jonas.
  19. The “edge of the world” is not supposed to be a thing – there’s only supposed to be a river at the end of their community and then other communities.
  20. The Giver does not live in a random house at the edge of the community – he stays at the annex near the house for the Old.
  21. Jonas is supposed to be lying face down when he receives the memories.
  22. The Giver should definitely look older.
  23. The Giver never gives Jonas the memory of music.
  24. The Chief Elder was never a “resistant” figure or enemy to Jonas.
  25. We never even hear much from her or the elders about the society.
  26. If anything the entire community and the elders are supposed to be oblivious and ignorant, not purposefully hiding the rest of the community from how it is ordered.
  27. Fiona will never get “released”.
  28. There is technically no sign of hostility in the community in the book at all.
  29. Jonas does not get “beamed up” into a plane.
  30. He definitely does not fall down a waterfall.

And, to add on to all these things that are incongruent to the novel, I need to also say that I absolutely hate trailers that basically summarise the entire movie in it – including parts that are supposed to be spoilers. So if you came here and read this list and thought I spoilt it for you, no I really really did not. Everything I mentioned here is in the trailer itself.

Still, at the end of the day I’m going to watch it, to see whether this adaptation is a worthy story in itself.

Till next time!

Three Poems From My Tumblr Dashboard

6 inklings - saturday

Scrolling down and writing the words I see from my tumblr dashboard. Maybe you’ll recognise some lines. I decided to break up the lines so it’ll look more fluid:

Poem I
shut your eyes and
think
of somewhere
you’re interesting
and you’re different
and i like that
trust me please
just hold me
and kiss my forehead
time changes everyone.
drown me in the ocean,
wash away my tears
11.12.13: every person has at least one
secret
that would break your heart
what was i to you?

Poem II (uncensored)
God is love
but Satan does that thing
with his tongue
that you love
you’re cute. like really
fucking cute.
and if you’re ever feeling lonely
just look at the moon
someone, somewhere is looking right at it too.
maybe i’m too busy being yours
to fall
for somebody new.
fuck distance.
of course
i’m fucking jealous.

Poem III
i feel like i’m waiting
for something that isn’t going to happen
because waiting for you
is like waiting for rain in this drought
useless and disappointing.
i will always always always always always always
care about you.
oh wow.
i wish i could be alright with this.
my thoughts were so loud
i couldn’t hear my mouth
k.
this conversation is now over.

The Unconventional Christmas Playlist

4 my soundtracks - thursday

Over the past few years I’ve accumulated a number of Christmas songs on youtube that aren’t very conventional. They’re either acoustic, not traditional, not from their original artist or just not the ones you expect to hear in your local mall or on the radio. Today I’d like to share with you this playlist. And yes, there are two versions of “All I Want For Christmas” – but that’s only because the two versions I’ve got here are so different they can practically be two different songs. Oh, and that’s Chrissy from Against the Current. She’s just awesome.

unconventionalxmasplaylist

1. Christmas Must be Something More – Taylor Swift
2. Next Christmas Eve – Alex Goot
3. On This Winter’s Night – Lady Antebellum
4. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas – Colbie Caillat
5. Shake Up Christmas – Train
6. Christmases When You Were Mine – Taylor Swift
7. December Nights – Drew Tabor
8. White Wine in the Sun – Kate Miller-Heidke
9. All I Want For Christmas is You – Dan Henig Ft. Chris DuPont
10. Santa Baby – Megan Nicole
11. Last Christmas – Ariana Grande
12. Winter Wonderland – Jason Mraz
13. The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire) – Kina Grannis and Joseph Vincent
14. All I Want For Christmas is You – Against the Current

I hope these tunes make your Christmas more merry! Or, alternatively, I hope that there is a Christmas song that you can relate to. Maybe traditional Christmases aren’t your thing and you need a song that fits the month but not the moment. 🙂

Till next time,
